Follow these steps before handing over your car. They help you if there is any question about damage later.
- Wash the car before pickup — this shows up all existing scratches and dents
- Photograph the car from all 4 sides, the roof, and the dashboard
- Note the odometer reading and photograph it
- Reduce fuel level to about a quarter of the tank
- Remove all personal items from the inside and the boot
- Switch off the car alarm and any vehicle tracker
- Remove toll tags and parking passes
- Note the tyre pressure in writing
- Ask for a written note of the car's condition at pickup and check it before you sign
